Geo-tagging a great feature of Carlson SurvCE
The following step-by-step instructions will allow you Geo-tag Photos in a few minutes!
The points you measure should be measured with GPS equipment for attaching an Image to a point so we can plot it properly in Carlson Survey or Google Earth.
Images CANNOT be added to Total Station points and Exported a Google Earth KMZ file from SurvCE.
Geo-tagged Images from SurvCE or SurvPC can be Imported to Carlson Survey 2020 or higher:
STEP ONE
Open SurvCE
Select the Equip tab
Select Configure
General tab
Check the box for “Prompt for Height & Description”
Scroll down and check the box for “Attach Photographs to Points/Lines”
Select Green tick to Save the settings.
Select Survey tab
Store Point takes us to a more detailed screen,
Select “Camera” icon next to the Description to record an Image and assigned to the current point.
STEP TWO
After attaching Photos to GPS points in SurvPC
Select File tab
Select Import_Export / Export Ascii File and change it to “File Type: KML/KMZ File *.kml”
Select Green tick to follow the prompts for creating a KMZ file in the data collector
STEP THREE
Copy the *.KMZ file and the “project”/Images from the data collector to your Carlson Projects/ “project” folder on the office computer
STEP FOUR
Run Carlson Survey 2015 or higher
From Points menu
Select Set a Coordinate file
Create a New – “project” .CRD file
From Settings
Select Drawing Setup and change to a “Grid” Coordinate System with “Projection: UTM and set the Zone the GPS points were created
Click OK
STEP FIVE
From Files menu
Select Import
Select Google Earth File and check the “Attach Image to Points” box then click “Set” on the right and browse to the Carlson Projects/”project” folder where your KMZ file is located
Click OK
Click OK again and browse to the KMZ file from last step and click “Open” and will plot the points into your DWG drawing and add automatically add them to the current (CRD) coordinate file
STEP SIX
To view the attached images in Carlson
Load the GIS menu
Select Image_Document_Inspector and hover the mouse over a point that has an image attached to see a preview the Image in the top left of your screen.
